Join us for an evening of transcendent shoegaze and psych rock as Split Moon (LA) and Above Me (SF) join forces to blow minds at the Make Out Room. Los Angeles shoegaze/psych-rock band Split Moon (formerly Leaf) is back with a new album More Clouds More Stars on Ghost Tower Records. Guitarist/vocalist Mark Starr (Insight, The Gimmicks) has led the band through shifting lineups with a droning wall-of-sound and hazy, melodic riffs guiding the way. Called “dark gaze at its finest, distorted and dense,” in POW Magazine, the new album expands Split Moon’s sound to combine fuzzed-out psych-rock, krautrock rhythms, spaced-out slowcore epics, and saturated noise pop. Split Moon is hitting the road for a series of West Coast dates in spring/summer 2025. Above Me is the new project from former Blue Ocean co-conspirator, Rick Altieri. Above Me pulls inspiration from his time in Blue Ocean but also leans into the world of drum machines, synths and electronic music production techniques. Still rooted in the sounds of noise pop and shoegaze, Above Me takes a left turn off the rock ‘n’ roll superhighway in search of a new palette of sounds. It’s noisy and melodic shoegaze over sequenced beats for today's troubled times. The debut Above Me EP is out now on Oakland’s Dandy Boy Records.
