About this concert
Juno and Grammy Award-winning pianist, composer, arranger, and musical director of remarkable virtuosity, Hilario Durán, is well recognized for his piano playing and composing skills. The music to be performed by this Orchestra blends milieus and motifs of the classic Cuban musical form, American standards, and the arrangement of the Frédéric Chopin composition Fantasia Impromptu. The music has been influenced by most of the traditional forms of Cuban music and the most modern contemporary harmonies. Tickets: $40

An absolute treat to experience this quartet at Hirut. Allison’s solos brought me to tears and emotion- such beautiful melodic phrasing and patterns that resolves with such surprising creativity. Needless to say but Reg stands as one of great guitarist. An amazing gift just to listen to how he constructs ideas and rhythms that always feels fresh, new and exciting. Just love the sound of the guitar and alto playing heads in unison - cycling and countering between Allison, Reg, Todd and Ian. That Herby Hancock arrangement was definitely an experiment that turned into a highlight. You have to look out for these musicians and make a point to see them - especially at this venue.

Allison Au Biography

Allison Au (pronounced “ow”) is a JUNO award-winning Canadian saxophonist, composer and arranger. Leader of the Allison Au Quartet, she has toured extensively throughout Canada and the US. Winner of the 2017 Montreal Jazz Festival TD Grand Prix de Jazz, the 2017 Halifax Jazz Festival Sting Ray Rising Star Award, and a 2017 Finalist for Toronto Arts Foundation Emerging Jazz Artist Award, Allison was also recognized by SFJAZZ’s 2018 list of "10 Rising Instrumentalists You Should Know.”
