The Wanderbird Biography
“Wondrous American troubadour who commands attention with his folk storytelling and enchanting songwriting. The shared experience of listening to his set is one of the sublime moments of this weekend” -David Chinery (Rock Regeneration) U.K.
Born alongside the Mississippi River and raised in the Ozark Mountains of southwest Missouri, songwriter & author Jason Thompson a.k.a. The Wanderbird sips from a deep well of Country, Folk, Gospel & Rural Blues all the while taking listeners on a journey through the backwaters and blue collars of the people and places he’s been. Leaving the hills and hollers of his beloved Ozark Mountains behind in his late-teens, Jason spent over 30 years wandering among the underground of American society. Meandering from town to town, collecting story’s and woodshedding songs, while playing dive bars and working a litany of labor jobs to support himself. In the spring of 2014, The Wanderbird was invited to Germany for his inaugural overseas tour and from that year forward was featured on Festival & Venue stages throughout Europe, the U.K. & Canada. In 2024 Jason decide to take a break from touring and instead focus on writing his second book (a full-length novel, set in the 1940's carnival circuit) and record years of backlogged songs that have yet to be released but will be in the coming years.
“It’s hard to forget Jason’s voice. A mix of guttural and commanding sincerity. Fiery, warm, pained, powerful, gritty and embracing.” -Brian Tucker (Star-News) N.C.
The Wanderbird’s latest album- Live-Hinton Martell Church is now available for download. A live bootleg album recorded in a historic English church located within’ the lovely countryside village of the same name.
