About this concert
The Uni Bar, a cornerstone of Tasmania's music scene and one of its longest-running live music venues, is calling last drinks. The closure is a result of the University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay campus redevelopment, which has led to the non-renewal of the Uni Bar's lease. This loss is a significant blow to the live music scene in Hobart, Tasmania, and Australia as a whole.
A beloved institution for countless music lovers, the venue has provided a stage for both emerging and established artists over many years. The Uni Bar has hosted hundreds of shows over the decades, including Faith No More, Public Enemy, Paul Kelly, Cold Chisel, PNAU, Powderfinger, Jungle, Divinyls, Grinspoon, The Amity Affliction and heaps more. Its closure marks the end of an era and leaves a void in the local music community.
This announcement is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by the live music community. It also highlights the importance of supporting and cherishing these cultural spaces while they are still with us.
Despite the sad news, VNDN is committed to celebrating the Uni Bar's legacy and bidding it farewell in style. A series of farewell gigs are planned to commemorate the venue's contribution to the music scene.
The first of these farewell gigs will feature the renowned Australian DJ duo, Peking Duk. The boys have rocked the roof off the Uni Bar before, but this will be your one last chance to see them there on Sat 24 May with some great local supports.
