Dylan Charles Biography
"It’s a physical performance. He plays and sings like he knows what he’s singing to the bone." -Parisa Mahdad, Kinofilia Arts Blog
Hey it’s Dylan. I’ve been doing music my whole life as a bandleader, sideman, producer, studio musician and teacher, but songwriting is my favorite. That’s what this bio is for, shows where I play guitar and sing songs I wrote. I’d write something different if it was a job application, or a birthday card, or a grocery list.
I play solo a lot, but sometimes other lovely musicians will join me which is always fun. My style is a big ‘ol musical gumbo I think, but let me know when you figure out the perfect little genre box to fit me in. I’ll write some stuff that’s one vibe but then I get bored so I write something totally different. Some people like the variety, some people are confused. C’est la vie. I just hope it makes you feel something; ideally something good or cathartic, or at least reminds you you’re alive.
Some years back I lived in this eccentric Arizona town called Bisbee. Out there I made a couple records and toured around with my band The Border Crossers. We still get together from time to time. I moved to NYC in 2012 and since then have been working with a soul band I co-founded called On The Sun. That band has kept me pretty busy writing, recording and touring, but I'm currently recording a bunch of songs for a some new solo releases that should start rolling out in the spring of 2020. I'll be putting out some sneak peaks on Soundcloud sooner than that too, so follow me on the socials for updates on that.
Ok, I hit 200 words or whatever right? I’d love to chat at a show sometime, or you can hit me on the DMs. K, see ya soon!
