New Fossils may be a newcomer to the vibrant jazz scene of Budapest, but that doesn't mean it isn't full of experience. Led by drummer Dániel Ferenc Szabó and bassist Marcell Gyányi, some of the most in demand players of their generation before performing their own compositions. After sharpening their teeth through a wide array of collaborations in the pop world, they wanted to dig deep into the world of improvised music. Forming a group with local jazz heavyweights Dániel Varga on saxophone and István Tóth on guitar, but in need of vibey piano and synth sounds, they invited too-cool-for-school Damján Ocsovay to join the band. Together, they form a contemporary jazz quintet, creating a dark, cinematic sound melded with youthful vigour and head-nodding rhythms.
