NESS NOST Biography
Ness Nost is an outspoken soulful storyteller with a cheeky dash of feminine rage. "Nöst's melancholy, biting and sentimental songwriting — her work's stripped down production harkens to the artists who focus on telling stories through their lyricism, building worlds with words." -Exclaim!
Nost (hailing from Ottawa Canada) grew up with musical influences like Joni Mitchell, CSNY, and The Beatles. It was during her years studying Theatre in Montreal that she got into the jazz scene, as a vocalist. Nost took her music out West in 2016 where her songwriting landed a spot as a Musician In Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts (BMIR program) where she produced her first professional single “Meridian.”
Performing over 200 shows in recent years, Nost now focuses on her recording career. In 2023 Nost raised $7000 independently for her self produced debut EP “Working Hours,”-a semi autobiographical body of work that “courageously delves into the complexities of the service industry, shedding light on the plight of countless women facing societal pressures and unwarranted advances.”(Wax Vynil UK) The first three singles have been heard on Soho Radio London UK, CITR, Radio Western, and the full EP releases in February 2024 following a feature in Exclaim Magazine.
Nost blends music with advocacy, and with her songwriting aims to shed light on difficult subject matter with grit, humour, and heart and explores what it means to be alive in this world.
