From The Workshop Biography

Helen first met Jonnie in February 2023, when he delivered a parcel to her, in Biggin Hill, Kent… the day after her dog got run over… little did they know that a year later they would be singing and writing together…
From The Workshop is Helen Rosemary and Jonnie Temple. Both based in Bromley, having begun romantically entwined, decided to become musically entwined too. Jonnie, with 20 years of punk rock and ska, had started to embark on a solo folk adventure. After 20 years of not singing, Helen wanted to give it some and it turned out she was quite good afterall (thank goodness)
Following a series of unfortunate coincidences, they started reimagining rock songs acoustically. Having been told they “were born to sing together“, it became obvious that they needed to collaborate and so it began.
Initially the idea of doing acoustic alternative rock covers seemed a novel idea, Jonnie invited Helen to sing “Call Me Your Home”, a song he wrote that was close to both their hearts. Helen found her confidence and in doing so found her true voice.
They began to work together, developing harmonies in Jonnie’s originals, capturing the hearts and stomachs of those who dared to listen. From The Workshop are continuously evolving, writing and performing original foot-stomping folk songs and heartfelt ballads, with themes reflecting their personal experiences and adventures.
Jonnie brings his influences from a range of artists such as Show of Hands, Chris Cornell, Frank Turner, and Bayside, while Helen draws on musical theatre alongside a love of Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and Miranda Sykes, together crafting a unique blend of alternative/contemorary folk.
The name From The Workshop was derived from Jonnie’s time as a guitar technician, writing and recording songs from his home workshop and reflects Helen’s love of textiles and crafts.
In 2024, Jonnie independently released F:orward, a solo debut album, the first of a trilogy of mini-albums. They are currently recording the second album, Towards, together, due to be released in 2025. In 2024 they performed on the main stage at the Oxted festival, with Ella Henderson & Echobelly, Pub in the Park, with The Bluetones, and Summerfest, with The Hoosiers and D:Ream, whilst continually touring throughout the southern half of England.
FTW have opened for Karen Pfeiffer & Paul Walker as well as Pete Morton at the Dartford Folk club, whilst regular headlining shows at The Oval Tavern in Croydon. They have also performed live on Channel Radio’s show, Folk in the Barn, with numerous radio plays of their songs “Ordinary Man” & “The Self-Appointed King” from the debut album.

…Sadly, the dog didn’t make it…
