RANI, born and raised in Heerhugowaard, discovered her passion for music at a young age and started writing songs at sixteen. Born Shannon Hilversum, Rani comes from her middle name, given to her by her parents in honor of her Surinamese grandmother, Sewrani. “Rani means queen in Hindi, and having a name that carries this title and honors my grandmother is my motivation to create music that is heartfelt, genuine, and that inspires,” she says. Embracing her role as an artist dedicated to establishing a space where individuals can authentically express themselves and feel safe and heard.
