GATAFIERA is a Vienna-based Latinx duo composed of queer trans artists Hoesé and Luí Gabriel. Combining their Peruvian and Brazilian roots, they have created a transformative musical project that blends reggaeton and baile funk with elements of drum and bass and rock, crafting a sound that energizes listeners, evokes deep emotional resonance, and amplifies their thought-provoking messages. The GATAFIERA Mission
Founded in the heart of Vienna, GATAFIERA emerged as a response to the glaring lack of diverse voices in urban Latin music within Austria. While the genre continues to grow in popularity, its representation remains dominated by cis-hetero and often white perspectives. GATAFIERA counters this by centering queer, trans, and Latinx narratives, as exemplified in their song Perreo Deculonizado, which reclaims reggaeton as a space for marginalized identities to thrive and express themselves. Hoesé, with a background in visual art, theater, performance, and fashion, and Luí Gabriel, a veteran of the Viennese music scene for over a decade, came together to create a safe, playful space for exploring their cultural and personal identities. Their lyrics, delivered in Spanish, Portuguese, German and English, challenge traditional narratives by addressing themes such as gender fluidity, sexuality, and the generational trauma of colonization.

The years 2023 and 2024 have marked significant milestones for GATAFIERA:

Debut Single Success: In April 2024, they released their debut single, Perreo Deculonizado, which amassed over 10,000 streams and was featured in prominent Spotify playlists like AustroZone and Waves Vienna 2024.

Show-Stopping Performances: Their debut live show at the Circuito Latino Festival (Fania Live, Vienna) captivated audiences and established them as a must-see act. Other notable performances include Vienna Pride’s Trans Viel Fest, Baden Pride, Nebál in Brno and the Waves Vienna Showcase Festival.
