Walk Away Alpha Biography

Walk Away Alpha is a four-piece American metal band from Reno, NV. The band is currently unsigned and have independently released their new all-original full-length album “Destroyers Of The Earth” recorded by Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, A Human Abstract, Glass Casket, Wretched, Scale The Summit) featuring a guest solo from guitarist Dustie Waring (Between The Buried And Me, Glass Casket). Walk Away Alpha has done three national tours and several small stints throughout the west coast, handling all their own management and booking. the band has shared stages with All Shall Perish, Born Of Osiris, Norma Jean, The Word Alive, Carnifex, Scale The Summit, Conducting From The Grave, Arsonists Get All The Girls, Forbidden, Jamie’s Elsewhere, and many more. History 2004-2010 The band was formed in 2004 by guitarists Donovan Spellacy and Trent Odneal. The original vision was to be a progressive rock band. By 2007, Walk Away Alpha had 5 members and was enjoying some local success playing independent shows around Northern Nevada and even getting some local radio play. In early 2008 the drummer, singer, and bassist all found reasons to leave the project. Donovan and Trent being left to find a new roster, they decided to reimagine their entire sound before seeking the right people for the job. After investing in some recording equipment, the two friends wrote and recorded a 5 song metal demo on their own. Once this heavier, more technical sound caught on with the local Reno metal scene Walk Away Alpha began auditions. 2010-2012 After a lot of experimentation, the band eventually found current drummer Josh Mathis in 2010. Specializing in extreme speed and technicality, Josh was the perfect addition for this new evolution of Walk Away Alpha. Determined to take steps in finding success, the band travelled to Mayhemness Studio in Sacramento, CA as a three piece to record a more professional 6 song EP. In mid 2011, after several attempts, they acquired a vocalist. The band recorded him independently, and had the tracks added to the music. After finally rebuilding the band, Walk Away Alpha held a CD release show at The Knitting Factory in Reno, NV on July 12th 2011 where they were able to draw 400+ fans. This CD served as a foundation for the band’s promotion until Summer 2012. From 2011 to early 2012 the band self-managed and booked several shows and small tours, travelling mostly to California. This hard work paid off, landing Walk Away Alpha on stage with bands such as All Shall Perish, Born Of Osiris, Norma Jean, The Word Alive, Carnifex, Scale The Summit, Conducting From The Grave, Arsonists Get All The Girls, Forbidden, Jamie’s Elsewhere, and many more. 2012-Current IIn early 2012, Walk Away Alpha decided it was time to book a national tour and record an album that would be fit for a major label. Being huge fans of Between The Buried And Me, the band picked Basement Studios, NC to record their full-length. A tour was booked around these recording dates. In the summer of 2012, the band bought a large van, quit their jobs, moved their belonging into storage, and set out on a tour across the US, leading them to Winston-Salem, NC. They recorded their album in two weeks and then left the East Coast and toured back home to Reno, NV. Jamie was able to assist in getting Dustie Waring to lay down a guitar solo on one of Walk Away Alpha’s songs. Shortly after coming home, the band had to part ways with their vocalist. By early 2013, after several hasty auditions, current singer Eric Iglesias was brought into the picture. Eric made a tremendous impression on the band and fans alike with his vocal abilities. The band was able to record Eric independently in Reno and send the vocals to NC for mixing and mastering., Walk Away Alpha booked and executed another national tour in Spring of 2013, as well as the spring of 2014. “Destroyers of the Earth” was independently released on 5/2/2014. Donovan, Trent, Josh, and Eric are currently writing new material, for their 2nd LP, working on a second music video, and searching for a label. Metal Band From Reno, NV. Touring/Writing - Looking for a Label - LP "Destroyers Of The Earth" Out 5/2/2014!
