About this concert
Ultramarine are the London & Essex-based electronic duo, Ian Cooper and Paul Hammond.
Formed in 1989, the duo’s early releases were issued on the seminal Brussels-based label Les Disques du Crépuscule. Their classic second album, Every Man And Woman Is A Star (1991), was neatly described by Simon Reynolds in his book 'Energy Flash' as:
“Perhaps the first and best stab at that seeming contradiction-in-terms, pastoral techno... all sun-ripened, meandering lassitude and undulant dub-sway tempos... like acid-house suffused with the folky-jazzy ambience of the Canterbury scene.”
In 2023, we released Ultramarine’s eighth album, 'Send and Return', the result of a live session captured onboard a barge floating on the Blackwater Estuary.

Ultramarine Biography
Ultramarine are a British progressive dance and electronic music duo, formed in the early 1990s by Paul Hammond and Ian Cooper.
Hammond and Cooper first worked together in the band A Primary Industry during the mid-1980s. Following the split of this band, they formed Ultramarine and released the album Folk in April 1990.
The duo's second album release, Every Man and Woman is a Star (1991) found critical acclaim, and Ultramarine were frequently seen at festivals such as Megadog and Glastonbury during the early to mid-1990s. Their subsequent albums (United Kingdoms (1993), Bel Air (1995), Hymn (1996), A User's Guide (1997)) failed to reach the commercial heights of Every Man and Woman is a Star, however.
