About this concert
Beyond delighted to be finishing up a year of 10th anniversary celebrations back where it all started, FARA return home for Orkney Folk Festival 2025!
Their journey began as members of the ‘Chairettes’ - The Chair’s string section/onstage groupies - but when 2014 Festival Director, Bob Gibbon, encouraged the group to come together in their own right, FARA was born.
That year, they performed their first gig at Orkney Folk Festival. A decade on, with three acclaimed albums under their belt and Highlander Rory Matheson at the piano, FARA bring their innovative yet unmistakably Orcadian sound back to this year’s festival.

FARA Biography
“Torch-bearers of a freshly reinvigorated tradition. . . one of the most exciting Scottish folk discoveries in recent years” (AllMusic)
Fusing the talents of three fine Orcadian fiddlers and vocalists - Jeana Leslie, Catriona Price and Kristan Harvey - alongside stand-out Highland pianist and newest member Rory Matheson, FARA have firmly secured their foothold at the forefront of the Scottish folk scene since taking 2014’s Orkney Folk Festival by storm. Their unique mix of spell-binding vocals, intricately woven fiddle harmonies and energetic closers, combined with an obvious kinship born in childhood, is sure to delight and entertain audiences wherever they go.
Shortlisted in 2015’s Scots Trad Music Awards for Up and Coming Act of the Year, the band performed a triumphant set at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards at the Albert Hall as Horizon Award nominees. They have since gone on to win a German Critics’ Choice Award and have received nominations for both Live Act of the Year and Folk Band of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards. They continue to tour internationally, with sell-out performances at festivals across Europe, Australia and North America, as well as a tour of China in 2023.
