About this concert
There are some, albeit ‘misguided’ souls, that think Tony Christie appeared out of nowhere in 2005, to grace our TV screens and ask the way to Amarillo. Nothing could be further from the truth. Those who know better, who appreciate his wonderful voice and his ability to get inside a song, can tell you that over the last 50 years he has recorded a string of exceptional records.
So: Is This the Way to Amarillo? No!
Fifty four years after the release of his million-selling hit, Tony Christie takes a nostalgic journey through his family’s Irish roots, revisiting the music of his grandparents who played in ceilidh bands and sang the songs of their homeland in County Mayo, Ireland. Once again joining forces with award-winning folk band Ranagri, they wind their way through the music of their childhoods, the stories that crafted the musicians they are today, and the inspirations that have brought them all together. Entering his 83rd year, this collaboration brings to light aspects of Tony Christie which many won’t have ever expected: emotional and introspective. With exquisite arrangements from Ranagri – guitars, percussion, flutes, dulcimer, harps – amidst haunting melodies and lush harmonies, many of the old traditional songs shine with new brilliance. Melded with musical influences from all over the world, their new album ‘The Great Irish Songbook Volume II’ will be released later this year. Expect to sing out loud, laugh and cry! Join these exclusive performances for an uplifting evening to remember for many years to come. Ranagri have performed in Canada, Portugal, Ibiza, Italy, Germany, France and all across Ireland and will be touring throughout the UK this coming Autumn.

Amazing show! Tony has still got such a powerful voice and looks like he’s at least 20 years younger than 82 years!

Tony Christie Biography
Tony Christie (AKA Anthony Fitzgerald), a Legend within music as he has had an illustrious career which has spanned over 50 years and is still going strong now.
Born 1943, Yorkshire. He started his musical life at the age of 17 (1960) in a duo called the 'Grant Brothers' and until 1969 he simply fronted bands. In 1969 he signed up with MCA records and then came his hits such as 'Amarillo' and 'I did what I did for Maria' and so Many more.
The 70's were massive for Tony with him selling over 10 million records. The 80's were a slow down due to the change in musical taste in the nation, however he was awarded the award 'Die Golden Europa' by german radio for superb showmanship.
The 90's led to more hits such as the song 'Sweet September' and the song by Jarvis Cocker, 'Walk like a Panther'.
Then came the phone call that brought Tony to be one of the biggest artists still going today. Peter Kay brought Tony to a whole new Generation of youth with the song '(Is this the way to) Amarillo' and 'Avenues and Allyways' off of Phoenix Nights.
Tony is still going strong and he got into the football spirit with '(Is this the way to) The World Cup'.
He is the king of British music and most likely the best solo artists to ever come out of the country. He fits into many categories of Music : Country; Folk; Easy Listening and even some classical (So deep is the Night). But now he fits firmly into pop music as he is now one of, if not the most popular and successful solo artist still going today.
