SeeD Biography
Based in The Netherlands and Ireland, SeeD plays original, acoustic, fantasy and pagan folk music. In August 2022 they released 'Fae', their third album and first as a five-piece band. A precursor single from the album, Het Vergeten Volk, was voted Best Song by a huge majority in the Celtcast Fantasy Awards 2021.
“SeeD have produced something quite special; simultaneously mystical, playful and adventurous” - Folk and Honey (UK)
SeeD was formed by brothers Lars and Koen Van Egmond who, after some line-up changes, were joined by Robin Dekker and Sara Weeda to record their debut album 'Portal to Elfland' in 2015. Their second album 'Through the Veil' followed in 2017. In 2019 they were joined by Galway-based Irish guitarist Joe Hennon who has played extensively in Europe with the Irish trad band Shantalla and the Pagan Folk band OMNIA. Sara is also a member of the internationally renowned Irish choral group ANUNA, with whom she has toured in Europe and China. SeeD are regular performers at festivals and have played in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK.
“The Dungeons and Dragons/Game of Thrones fans will lap it up, likewise SciFi followers, but outside eager and open ears might also” - Irish Music Magazine (IRL)
Inspired by childrens’ stories, Celtic mythology and the fantasy worlds of novels such as Lord of the Rings and movies like The Dark Crystal, SeeD gives a sound to Faery tales, stories and creatures that exist in dreams and fantasies. Acoustic instruments - flutes and whistles, 6 and 12 string guitars, mandolin, various ethnic drums and sliding didgeridoo are blended together with the voices of the five band members singing in Dutch, Irish and English. Their music is visually supported by the artwork of percussionist Robin, who is also a talented graphic designer and visual artist.
“The music is well and skillfully arranged and may seem mysterious or mythological in terms of theme, but as far as the musical performance is concerned, SeeD has both feet on the ground” - New Folk Sounds (NL)
