No Men Biography
NO MEN make sultry, subversive and seething lady rock; melding blistering riffs, breakneck rhythms and powerful vocals into rhythmic, explosive catharsis for their fellow queers, freaks and geeks–music that doesn’t quite fit into any particular category for people who don’t quite fit into any particular category.
NO MEN began as an only-slightly-more-traditional 4-piece group in Austin, TX in 2014, with drummer Mike Doyle and contributions on bass in turn from Andy Wilkosz and Andrew Persante, but the bulk of the band’s existence has been as a trio after the songwriting pair of vocalist/drummer Pursley and bass VI player DB relocated to Chicago in the fall of 2015. There, drummer Ricky Hundo was quickly recruited into the fold and the final evolution of NO MEN was born, playing their first show in their current form in December of 2015.
Since then, NO MEN has recorded three acclaimed full-length LPs, putting on hundreds of performances along the way–coming up through the vibrant Chicago DIY scene, touring regionally and internationally, bringing their brand of raucous doom to some of the best music festivals locally (Logan Square Arts Fest, Wicker Park Fest, Ian’s Party, Fed Up Fest, and more…) and nationwide (Pittsburgh’s Ladyfest, Milwaukee’s Bay View Bash, Bloomington’s Midwest Punk Fest, and many more…) playing alongside idols and influences such as Lydia Lunch Retrovirus, Screaming Females, and the Coathangers, making countless new friends and new hearing losses along the way.
