As a songwriter, his songs have been recorded by country music legend Doug Stone, Rural Rhythm recording artist Mason Douglas, Daniel Dennis, Bryan Edwards of duo Indigo Summer, and various other artists.

Shelby Merchant’s songs have been featured on NPR, Large Market Radio Stations of the Year WQDR (Raleigh, NC) and WSIX (Nashville, TN) and also has had two songs reach the #1 spot a Nashville Independent radio chart.
