Brett Matthews Biography
Originally hailing from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, musician Brett Matthews brings a refreshing take to the americana genre by combining an eclectic list of influences from RnB to Country to create a unique expression that is melancholic, nostalgic and beautifully musical. He shares similarities with Bon Iver, City & Colour, Wintersleep and Novo Amor. Coming from an artistic household, Brett began writing music at the early age of 13, but it wasn’t until later in life that he decided to share his talents with the world. In 2019 Brett started playing guitar for local hip-hop artist Classified’s touring band, and since then has played over 40+ shows to crowds of 500+ people, all while perfecting his craft. The inspiration for Brett Matthews’ upcoming release “If I Die Today” comes from a tragedy in his hometown, and the realization of how unexpected life can be, given that it can be cut short so easily. After playing the song for thousands of people across Canada with excellent response, Brett feels compelled to release the song officially this fall, in hopes of uplifting others in similar situations.
