Laci Kaye Booth Biography
Laci Kaye Booth, with her sweet southern drawl, is a true child of Texas. Born with a genuine love of music that runs in her blood. Growing up in Livingston, Laci watched her father, Jody Booth, travel around the state playing gigs and making his mark on the Texas country music scene. When she was only nine years old, she picked up her first guitar but put it back down until she was fourteen. A self-taught musician, Laci’s guitar became an extension of herself and she hasn’t stopped playing.
Don’t let the gorgeous Texas blonde fool you with her reserved demeanor- her voice is full of soul, smokiness and a deep velvet-like tone that has been called extraordinary. When she gets on stage she is the kind of singer that you can’t take your eyes off and when she’s done you can’t believe what you just heard. A few hours short of her college degree, Laci made the gutsiest move of her life thanks to her supportive mother Priscilla. She went to the open auditions of American Idol in Houston. She remembers sitting in the car shaking with nerves but being able to get out and walk in because of the love and support of her mother who would become a heartwarming fixture on the show- a reminder of the families behind these talented singers. Before she knew it, she had made it to the Top 20, then Top 10 and her life became a magical combination of live television performances, constant rehearsals, and learning what it means to be a professional artist. The growth and experience gained is something Laci will cherish as she moves forward in her career. Finishing in the Top 5, she was a clear fan-favorite and her voice shined on her unique versions of unexpected songs like “Stars” [Grace Potter], “I Want You To Want Me” [Cheap Trick], and “I Miss You” [Blink 182] along with moving renditions of country songs like “The House That Built Me” [Miranda Lambert] and “Mercy” which she performed live with Brett Young. After an exceptional performance, Katy Perry said this- “You are such a unique, multi-dimensional star…you could be a country star, you could be a pop star, you could be a country-pop star, you can be anything you want.”
Laci has drawn inspiration from artists like Merle Haggard to Kacey Musgraves, often invoking the word “dreamy” when it comes to the type of music she makes. Her biggest influence is Stevie Nicks and the music of Fleetwood Mac. Listening to those melodies and lyrics, Laci knew she wanted to write her own stories and her own songs. She has immersed herself in the Nashville writing community, winning the praise and admiration of established writers like Nathan Chapman, Corey Crowder, Logan Wall and Kelly Archer. Her commitment and talent has led her to the opportunity to play on the Spotlight Stage at Stagecoach 2020- the largest and most prestigious country music festival on the West Coast.
Laci has not rested on the laurels of her exposure on American Idol- she has genuinely dug into what it means to write her truth and find her sound. “Moving to Nashville is everything I’ve ever wanted. I’m so grateful to American Idol for pushing me in the direction of a dream I’ve had since I was a little girl singing “Crazy” by Patsy Cline. The artists, the writers- everyone I’ve met here have inspired me endlessly. I can’t wait to share all of this music with the world. This is truly the beginning of my journey!” Laci is currently working on an upcoming EP. Check out lacikayebooth.com for all updates, news and tour dates.
