North East Ska Jazz Orchestra Biography
The North East Ska*Jazz Orchestra is a 19-piece big band made out of young musicians from the North-East of Italy who are professionals in the Jamaican and Afro-American music genre.
The band was founded in 2012 and since then it has played several shows around Europe, from Spain to Slovenia.
In summer 2016 it went on its first European tour whose main dates were Rototom Sunsplash, Benicasim, 2016 (ESP), Algara Konpartsa, Bilbao 2016 (ESP) and other dates in Southern France.
Thanks to its featuring with Mr. T-Bone (Africa Unite, The Bluebeaters, New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble; The Uppertones); Furio (Pitura Freska, Ska-J) and Olly Riva (Shandon, the Fire), the NESJO has conceived much support in a very short time.
Its line-up is: Flute, 4 Saxophones, 3 Trombones, 3 Trumpets, 3 Vocalists and Rhythm section.
The show consists of ska and reggae original songs, arrangements of the most famous jazz standards and other kinds of tunes from the afro- american tradition.
Over the years the NESJO has released one EP (Music For Marikana, 2014) one Album (Stompin’ and Rollin’, Brixton Records 2015) and two official video clips (Take Five and Hard Man Fe Dead, 2013 and 2016).
In December 2016 a brand new 7” vinyl labeled Brixton Records is coming out with the collaboration of two of the main international Ska musicians, Fred Reiter from the New York Ska-jazz Ensemble and David Hillyard from the Slackers.
