SambaLolo Biography

SambaLolo was formed as a performance group in 1999 by Boubacar Diabate. Its mission has been to gather the best of Bamako's musicians together in a peaceful and prosperous community, tasked with traditional roles of a Jeli (Griot) work in resolving conflict, making the community stronger and passing the messages from our ancestors. Singing in Mandeng and Bamanan, Boubacar and SambaLolo create music which spans the full spectrum of Traditional to Contemporary Malian music with trips to Reggae, Blues and Jazz. "It cuts cleanly and crisply through the genre clutter with a groove that slices directly to the heart with honest power." Bouba has collaborated with traditional musicians from villages and cities of Mali, including BTK, Adama Yalomba, Sanus, Amzu, Lynx Mamadou N’Diaye, Sory Diabate, Moussa Traore, Djelimakan Diabate, Ketly Noel, Krimo, Jan Luc, Ali Farka Toure, Salif Keita with “Cabaret Tribal”, Tosh, Vieni, Ooumou Sangare, Ladji Shekou and others... SambaLolo has formed a second home as well as a production company which provides the opportunity and musical stage for other groups, ballets and west african artists to take control of their own production and message.
