Stephanie Morgan (Pink Mercury, form. stephaniesid) Biography
Pink Mercury is dream pop - improvised! Led by shapeshifting vocalist Stephanie Morgan (formerly of Asheville, NC's stephaniesid), Pink Mercury creates entirely spontaneous lyric- and soundscapes, full of love & curiosity. It’s art-pop centered, but ultimately a genre-bending conversation between seasoned songwriters who show up to surrender & listen to each other. Tapers welcome (please, for the love of god... we have no record of this sh*t). www.pinkmercury.com
Reviews for Steph's former band, stephaniesĭd, which made actual songs but in the approximate genre:
"...a rather transcendent set ...the band was different, melodic, quirky, and just plain good.... A sleeper act
which hit the mark with an almost Bjork-like panache." --Bonnaroo Beacon
"Like Jim Morrison at a ballet class." --The Asheville Disclaimer
"The songs move from intimate to anthemic ... shimmering synth hooks and smoothly shifting melodic textures... difficult to classify but easy to love." --Wayne Robins, Billboard Magazine
"This is world-class music, period. No labels necessary." --Fred Mills, Blurt Magazine
"Dig It: A Scandinavian Pop princess gets lost in the American South and is rescued by a Jazz quartet."--CityBeat, Cincinnati
"Gorgeous melodies over deceptively smart and deep musical ideas..." -- WGSM, Greensburg, PA
About Steph
Stephanie Morgan is a shapeshifting singer (currently as Pink Mercury), songwriter (under her own name), and voice actor (aka Chloe Taylor). She has a Master's in Social Work and spent a bunch of time working with all kinds of people before launching her career in music back in 2007, touring the US and a couple of other countries. She's a kid who moved around a lot, a former gymnast, a science nerd, a gardener. She asks a lot of questions.
After her band of 13 years, stephaniesĭd, disbanded in 2016 with a sold-out last show at the beautiful Diana Wortham Theatre in Asheville, Steph continued making music for “the darkness in you that's trying to find the light.” Her music has sort of morphed into being "for the dark and light in you, because we all need light, duh". She curates her projects with players who are equally faithful stewards of emotional swells, infectious dance grooves, and silence.
She has had songs featured on Showtime's "Nurse Jackie", videogame "Until Dawn" (Supermassive/Sony Playstation), NPR's "World Cafe" and "All Songs Considered", Nissan Games' "The Red Helmet", and The Weather Channel. Steph's music was the subject of a rock ballet in Asheville, NC, and she founded the very first multi-venue music festival in Asheville, called POPAsheville, which ran from 2007-2009. The voice acting version of her (Chloe Taylor) co-stars with Michael C Hall in The Hacker Chronicles, a 2-season campy drama available wherever you listen to podcasts.
