Hat and Cross

London-based Hat and Cross formed in February 2023, drawing inspiration from the minimal sounds of New Order's early drum machine rhythms (Boss DR-55), and guitars resonating with the raw grit of Big Black in combination with early Cure (Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornography era).

Some songs touch on topics such as past friendships, death, and skepticism. Sometimes described as 'lofi post-punk and vocals' or 'primitive post-punk/industrial rock', all releases are home-recorded, inspired by the lo-fi production of early Boris Dzaneck records.

The first single, Talking, was released April 2023, followed by Engine Fire, which was released June 2023. Observer, the third single, was released July 2023.

A live release titled Noise Corruption 6 was released September 2023, capturing Hat and Cross's live set at New River Studios in London.

In late October 2023, Random Scene was released. An instrumental originally crafted with a cinematic landscape in mind, the track blends elements of late 80's era grunge music, post-punk and noise, and also features the Alesis HR-16.
