Lucas Pasley Biography
Lucas Pasley is a singer-songwriter and oldtime fiddler / banjoist and from Sparta, NC in the heart of the southern Appalachian mountains.
Rooted in traditional Appalachian and country music, Lucas often pulls lyrics from his family's writing in addition to his own and there's an emphasis on instrumental solos and harmony singing throughout his music. His first album, Souls Living On, is a collection of four generations of songwriting in his family. His second album Ponies Back Home continues the style bringing in a variety of singers and instrumentalists. His music is available for purchase on Bandcamp and available to listen on all streaming services.
On the traditional music side, Lucas plays in the band Gap Civil and has worked to preserve and honor the music of Alleghany County, NC and the surrounding areas. He often plays for square dances and festivals in the area. Check out Gap Civil's webpage and click here for more information on Lucas's bio and projects with traditional music.
Quotes on Lucas's Music
"Lucas' songs take me to that place in my mind where I contemplate and feel thoughts and emotions that I don't think about on a daily basis. The heartfelt lyrics and strong melodies support his true talent as a songwriter and performer. " - Jamie Collins, Blue Ridge Girls
~~~~
"Lucas is an incisive and humanist songwriter; with every song he's looking for the bridge between the characters he writes about and the characters he sings to. There's a lot of mood in his baritone voice, and there's a universality in his music that doesn't sacrifice its mountain soul." - Wes Freeman, Field Recorders' Collective
~~~~
"With a family tradition for songwriting and composing fiddle tunes, Lucas Pasley brings the sensibility of regional sounds from his home in the mountains of western North Carolina to his music. Pasley's songwriting grounds universal themes such as heartbreak, celebration, and family ties in the local stories that serve as his primary inspirations. This is place-based music that transcends the landscape where it was created. It's a deep spring of song that runs from Bullhead Mountain, the peak around which Pasley's family has lived for generations, out into the world with songs that grow in depth after each listen." - Trevor Mckenzie, Director for Center of Appalachian Studies, ASU
