"House of Light croon and shout amidst a cinematic shoegazy mesh of synth and guitars. Their lyrics evoke the new-romanticism of the 80s and the disillusion of the 90s. Compared to New Order, the Doors & Sonic Youth. They have had been booked with Lydia Lunch, Pete Doherty, the Drones and been interviewed by Andy Rourke of the Smiths."
On their 3rd world tour, they will record in December with the Berlin Opera Orchestra.
Live streams with week.
House of Light’s new single “Still Life” is a slow building to dramatic themes. This electric lament typifies their propensity to the dark & melancholic in epic fashion. Lyrical themes run deceptively deep, pitching the clash of longing to return to a state of natural & human innocence in the face of the forbidden fruit of technology’s onslaught using archtypal Jungian imagery. The riffs that dot this dark & dreamy terrain seem familiar but near-overflowing in an echoey sonics. Fear & hope elope together on a dysphoric path, while objects of desire await frozen in time.
The band rarely played the song live, describing it as “musically too intense to pull together right now” but post-plague tours will return on all shores. House of Light are described as born In Berlin & raised in LA though the main writer moved from Melbourne, Australia.
HoL’s shows have been attended by the likes of Frank Black of the Pixies & Andy Rourke of the Smiths who interviewed them on East Village Radio. The band flits between formations with member in several cities, as liquid & versatile as their music. Many of their songs work as well in violin-duets or solo, yet their domain sits firmly in some new romantic vision, likewise frozen in time but with a modern twist. On a good night live they croon & explode in their own night, often improvising on some of their free-form pieces.
