About this concert
EBONY LAMB w/ GRAM ANTLER EARLY SHOW ~ 5.30PM BAR FROM 3PM SUNDAY 19TH MAY ~ Vogelmorn Upstairs (Bowling Club) Wellington “transfixing” Tony Stamp - The Sampler “words spilling out of a voice imbued with the honey-soaked hue of an artist like Sharon Van Etten” Rolling Stone Aus/NZ Taite Music Prize Finalist (2024) Ebony Lamb is performing a special one-off show in her hometown of Pōneke as part of New Zealand Music Month. Hot on the heels of touring the South & North, as well as supporting Calexico nationwide and her stunning sold-out debut album release tour in 2023 (produced by Bic Runga & Kody Nielson (UMO) and released on Nadia Reid’s boutique label Slow Time Records). Joining Ebony on the night will be her long time collaborator and Pōneke/Wellington based songwriter/musician Gram Antler (Eb & Sparrow). Earning an enviable reputation amongst her contemporaries and music fans alike for her dynamic performances, audience rapport and prolific songwriting. Ebony has been compared to Gillian Welch, Cat Power and Neko Case “If heaven is not within sight, it certainly is within hearing” William Dart - RNZ PRAISE FOR EBONY LAMB “transfixing” Tony Stamp - The Sampler “EBONY LAMB is incredible” Flying Out “one of Aotearoa’s most beguiling singer-songwriters” The Spinoff - Claire Mabey “soulfully-streamlined, aching and sophisticated” The Autumn Roses - UK “The artist’s masterful vocal delivery, whether live or recorded, makes her an activator of goosebumps” METRO GRAM ANTLER Reformed choirboy and post-alt-country, Jason Johnson presents Gram Antler as an anachronism, a man unstuck in time, so it goes. The songs of Poneke singer-songwriter, bass player, guitarist and session musician, Gram Antler (Ebony Lamb, Marlon Willams, French For Rabbits, Eb & Sparrow), aspire to be pop, but seem to congeal into a form that can only be described as Slacker Yacht-Rock. Hooky and melodic, and full of lush textures, the soon-to-be-released record GRAM ANTLER was written and recorded with award-winning Melbourne-based producer Brett Stanton (The Phoenix Foundation, Beastwars, Holly Smith). **The Upstairs Bar and Smoked and Pickled Restaurant will be open from 3pm, to book a table for pre-show kai email Alice at smokednpickled@gmail.com
