Big Reef Biography

Morgan and Hayden Quinn are curious people. You only need to subscribe to one of their social media channels for a few days before that becomes exceedingly obvious. The pair shroud everything they do in an impenetrable cloud of sarcasm, absurdity and irreverence. Whether it is their meta self referential promotional campaigns, colour rich self directed music videos, their fictional A.I counterparts "Jenkins and Perkins", or just about every piece of art and media they have created as a supporting appendage to their music so far.

Big Reef have established an ever expanding universe around themselves, one which clouds their personality in pure obfuscation. But at the centre of that universe lies a suite of strong, disarming, fully-realised, contemporary pop songs, finessed and crafted almost to a point of dissonance when juxtaposed against their worldbuilding antics ...and that's kind of the point of it all.

The Brothers employ a broad palette of musical and production motifs borrowed from the new wave and post punk scenes of the 1980s, funnelling them into modern contemporary indie pop songs. The pairs' writing process is studio- based and explorative, resulting in production focused songwriting: written and produced simultaneously from behind the mixing desk rather than in the rehearsal room.

Big Reef are quickly becoming a must see live act, pulling favourable crowds up and down the cast coast to witness their hot-desk style instrument juggling, irreverent and engaging stage banter and inspired accompanying live visual show, which evolves deepens the lore of the Big Reef universe with each performance.

The Brothers Reef draw on influences such as Peter Gabriel. Talking Heads, Tears for Fears, The 1975 and Talk Talk, syphoning them into their works. Their steady stream of single. video and visual art releases is paving the way for what's waiting in the wings (or rather on their studio hard drive): a collection of works that are tonally diverse, presented within a window of discourse that is stylistically firm and familiar.
