Experience the Ziad Jazz Quartet's musical journey paying tribute to The Final Tour: Bootleg Series Vol. 6, capturing the historic collaboration between jazz icons Miles Davis on trumpet and John Coltrane on saxophone during their 1960 European tour. The Ziad Jazz Quartet, featuring Ziad Rabie (saxophone), Al Strong (trumpet), Kobie Watkins (drums), Lovell Bradford (piano), and Ron Brendle (bass), brings these jazz legends' legacy to life with dynamic performances navigating through bebop complexities.
Join us for an evening celebrating the timeless brilliance of Davis and Coltrane as the quartet presents classic tunes such as "All Of You," "Walkin'," and "So What," each note resonating with spontaneity and reverence for jazz history.
ABOUT THE FINAL TOUR
Released as part of Columbia Legacy's esteemed "Bootleg Series," The Final Tour: Bootleg Series Vol. 6 allows fans a unique chance to witness the collaboration between Davis and Coltrane at a crucial juncture in jazz history. These recordings shed light on the development of their individual styles and highlight their lasting impact on the genre. With tracks from Davis's Kind of Blue album, Coltrane's improvisational expertise enriches the music, showcasing both artists' evolution during this significant period. The release captures the essence of their musical partnership, with Coltrane's innovative solos and Davis's mastery in a rare supporting role taking prominence on The Final Tour.
TICKETS
Tickets are $20 for Bechtler members; $25 for nonmembers; free for Jazz Affinity Group members. Advance ticket registration is required for all shows to guarantee seating.
Firebird Circle, Curator's Circle, and Director's Circle members receive complimentary admission to all public programs, including Jazz at the Bechtler and Music and Museum.

Al Strong Music Biography
Trumpeter. Arranger. Band leader. Al Strong is an award-winning trumpet player, composer, recording artist and educator. A cultural innovator, he is the co-founder of the Art of Cool Project, which spawned the original Art of Cool Music Festival in Durham, N.C. and the stArt of Cool youth summer camp.
Strong is lauded for his distinctively unique sound. Whether melting hearts at a whisper volume or being gracefully dynamic when the music calls for more intensity, his natural ability to strike listeners at their core is unmatched. His 2016 debut album, LoveStrong Vol. 1, a 10-song mix of original music and jazz classics, garnered national and international attention for its “blues-inflicted, Southern church-happy” sound.
A native of Washington, D.C., Strong is a graduate of the renowned Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies from North Carolina Central University and a Master’s in Jazz Performance / Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University.
Strong’s discipline and dedication to his craft has forged a prominent career that includes performances with music legends such as Aretha Franklin, The Count Basie Orchestra, Dwele, Eric Roberson, and The Hamiltones. He’s also served as music director for hip-hop pioneer Rakim and has headlined shows at the Blue Note Jazz Festival, Winter Jazz Fest, and Blues Alley.
Known for his creative ability to seamlessly re-imagine existing works like Thelonious Monk’s “Blue Monk” and the classic “My Favorite Things,” Strong aims to challenge the boundaries of music while connecting with his audiences.
He continues this mission of storytelling with his latest project Love Stronger featuring the single "Black Love" and the special rendition “LEVAS,” Strong’s heartfelt arrangement of the Negro National Anthem, “Life Every Voice and Sing.”
