About this concert
The music of our land, the open tuned guitars and sounds of the audience singing along are returning to the festival fields of Mill Farm, Bradford Abbas, on Saturday, 25th May! Out Folk Festival is back! Bigger, brighter, and more effervescent than ever for 2024. The perfect one day music festival and Dorset countryside family day out; full to the brim with beautiful ambience. Featuring a superb line up of fine folk music acts... After and outstanding performance in 2023, we welcome back folk punk trio, Ninotchka, who will be bringing the energy once again with their lightning fast Irish jigs and wild gypsy dances. Then keep your dancing shoes on and catch the rest of our outstanding line-up - Mae Karthauser, Suthering, Jamie Gould, Motorhome, Billie Marree, Edd Donovan and, of course, our mighty house band, The Ducks! There will be plenty of activities for kids of all ages - face painting, bouncy castle assault course, fluffy alpacas, as well as arts and crafts and stalls to browse and peruse the day away. Ideal for keeping the smalls entertained while you soak up the festival atmosphere. Festival food and drink will be available from local vendors all day until the night lights twinkle. The Mill Farm Bar will be back in the field fully stocked with local wines, beers, ciders and spirits as well as non-alcoholic alternatives. Perfect for a wee tipple in the sunshine. A huge thank you goes out to Katie Whitehouse from, 'From the Whitehouse', in helping us discover and book some amazing acts for this year's festival. We are so excited to be able to share these artists with you. All ticket information is listed below. Please get in quick before they disappear. We are a boutique festival with a big heart and tickets can go fast!

Mae Karthauser Biography

Mae Karthauser is a British songwriter with a rich, acrobatic voice and a distinctive yet unplaceable songwriting style. Raised in a musical family, her debut performance came in 1990, aged 5, when she sang a solo as a policeman on the Abbotts Ann village hall stage.

With “The Midnight Fairground” band and in collaboration with European circus companies, she's played whilst harnessed off the edge of BBC Television studios, whilst flying over the Mont Blanc range in a paraglider (her red painted keyboard held tightly on her lap!), as well as multiple solo tours in France and Belgium. Mae has been featured on BBC Radio 3 and Radio 6 and has performed live on BBC2's The One Show, as well as winning the stage at Glastonbury Festival and TEDx.

As the world plunged into lockdowns in 2020 new songs with a different feel began emerging; back to her roots, to melody, simplicity and fragile honesty. With flautist Ronja Schlumberger and cellist Ben Roberts they have explored the edges of their instruments. These new songs dance childlike through tender, magical and dark terrain and explore both experimental and simple organic tones. The latest album “August” was released on 17th March 2023 to a sell-out audience at The Great Hall, Dartington.

"Epic... gorgeous... ethereal" - CLASH

“Her voice soars like a nightingale” – FATEA
