Tresey

Smooth vocals with a jazz influence and gospel inflections are the sounds you’ll hear from Tresey. Growing and developing her voice on the West Side of Chicago, Tresey has been hitting stages both domestically and internationally since the age of eight years old.

Schonte Patrice Hamilton better known as Tresey was born in Milwaukee, WI, and raised in Chicago, IL. She began singing at her father’s church as a young child. Singing in the choir and around the community, Tresey fell in love with music. She enjoyed making people feel good and lifting their spirits.

As she entered junior high, she was introduced to theater by her teacher and that was the start of her theatrical pursuit. She joined a theater group and toured in several theater productions. It was through these experiences that she fell in love with acting.

At 14 years old, she attended a music conference where she sang for BeBe Winans and Gary Hines from Sounds of Blackness. From this meeting, she developed her writing skills with assistance from Hines and released her first single, a gospel song entitled Break Thru. Her teens were spent singing in front of talents like Andrae and Sandra Crouch, the Winans, Yolanda Adams, and Robert Kelly.

As a young adult, she moved to Los Angeles, CA, and was mentored by the legendary Andrae Crouch. During this time, she spent time in the studio with Crouch and learned the ins and outs of the music business. Learning to make music that was classic and timeless was a priceless skill she gained from her time with the music legend.

While in Los Angeles, she ventured into the world of acting and had success in musicals such as Sister Act and the award-winning play, Doubt.

Being a writer, Tresey, also wrote several stage play productions, and one of her plays reached Broadway. Queen Me was a semi-finalist in the New York Theater Festival and received praise from the Broadway community.

Tresey is also a screenwriter, writing an award-winning short film entitled, The House with the Bright Light, which was screened at the Twin Cities Black Film Festival and Grand Junction Film Festival.

Tresey has also had some success on television, appearing on the Steve Harvey Show, and an episode of Find Our Missing in addition to commercials and after-school specials.

In 2019, Tresey wrote a song called Too Smart for Love as a soundtrack to a television show. While the show was put on hold, the song caught the attention of listeners. This song, a fusion of Gospel, Jazz, and R&B is the perfect example of Tresey's signature sound.

In 2021 after a lengthy illness with lung disease, Tresey released a two-song project called Songs of Healing. She wrote these songs to bring hope and healing to others through music.

Tresey has studied with the best, such as celebrity vocal coach, Micah Pilsner, Lachuné, and Margie Haber Studios LA.

“In order to be the best, I surround myself with the best and I listen”, says Tresey. “I’ve had the privilege of observing the greatest artists at work. In order to be legendary, you have to build a legacy of quality work. I want to create a beautiful legacy of music that reaches the soul and touches the heart. I want music that transcends time and space,” says Tresey.
