I’ve been listening to Rum Ragged for only 2 years now after my move to NL. Their music, vocals and lyrics captured my attention during my usual Sunday morning routine of listening to local NL/Irish tunes on the radio. I’ve missed a few chances to see them in St. John’s over these past two years so drove 1.5 hrs west to hear them play in Hearts Content in a repurposed local church. The setting was intimate and friendly. The lead singer is a gifted host, the fiddler has an infectious energy and smile all night long (even did a little jig on his corner of the stage to a great accordion reel), and the accordion player and fellow guitarist are genuinely talented and feel the music rather than simply play chords. For a taste of authentic Newfoundland musical culture, these musicians/storytellers are the ones to see. Even more of a fan now who will continue to drive to watch them across the Island. Bravo!!
