About this concert
Sophie Ellis-Bextor shot to fame as a vocalist on Spiller's huge number one single, ‘Groovejet’ and her worldwide smash hit, ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’. Her debut solo album, ‘Read My Lips’, was released in 2001 and sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. In 2020, her Kitchen Discos, performed at home during lockdown with her five sons and recorded by her husband, musician Richard Jones, were watched and enjoyed by 40 million around the world. Following the performances, she released her latest album ‘Songs From The Kitchen Disco’ in late 2020 on Cooking Vinyl, bringing together Sophie’s hits with many other songs from her phenomenally successful lockdown Kitchen Disco performances, garnering further critical acclaim and yet another top 10 UK album chart position. You'll know Aston Merrygold as part of the four-piece boyband JLS who finished second place on the fifth series of The X Factor. The group signed a record deal off the back of their successful run on the show and went on to release four studio albums, release their own film JLS: Eyes Wide Open, and win BRIT and multiple MOBO Awards. Aston will be joining us and mixing work from his solo career and throwback JLS tracks. NME have described The Ramona Flowers textural sound as "a wholly different beast", and The Guardian declared "hugeness may be imminent". The band's unique sound has not gone unnoticed by their peers either as they were recently thrust into the spotlight when band of the moment BASTILLE asked them to support them on their massive 17 date UK headline tour and BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB asked them to support them on their European tour plus Alt- J, Hot Chip, Everything Everything and Ladytron have all given them the remix treatment having first heard their early demos. Radio hosts Josh & Kally will be warming you up with their DJ set too! Once the main show ends, we're thrilled to announce that your aftershow DJ taking you through until 11pm is Charlie Simpson. Charlie is a member of the BRIT Award winning pop-punk band Busted and he is also lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in the post-hardcore band Fightstar plus he won last year's series of The Masked Singer as Rhino! Gates open: 4pm

Sophie Ellis-Bextor Biography

Throughout the '90s, the U.K. music scene was filled to the brim with nerdy cockney types sporting messy threads and even messier hair. Sophie Ellis-Bextor was among the first Brit-pop stars to break with this trend. She made it onto the stage in 1997 as the teenage vocalist behind new wave outfit theaudience. Smartly dressed and boasting an alluring voice, she caused quite a stir on London's alternative circuit. Theaudience became known the world over as a groundbreaking pop act and enjoyed success on the crowded U.K. singles chart with such numbers as "I've Got the Wherewithal." After the group split up, Ellis-Bextor went searching for success on her own.
