About this concert
James McMurtry's lauded storytelling consistently has turned heads for decades now. “James writes like he’s lived a lifetime,” said John Mellencamp back in 1989, when Too Long in the Wasteland hit the Billboard 200. “James McMurtry is one of my very few favorite songwriters on Earth and these days he’s working at the top of his game,” says Americana all-star Jason Isbell. “He has that rare gift of being able to make a listener laugh out loud at one line and choke up at the next. I don’t think anybody writes better lyrics.” McMurtry tours year-round and consistently throws down unparalleled powerhouse performances.

James, Band and Betty Soo knocked it out of the park. Music was great and fantastic venue at the Hopmonk Tavern. I traveled from San Diego just to see James and band. Would love to have him come back to San Diego.

James McMurtry Biography
James L. McMurtry, along with his Austin-based band, James McMurtry & The Heartless Bastards, is a self-described "rock & roots" guitarist and singer-songwriter, drawing on elements of alt-country, folk and old-fashioned texas rock.
The son of novelist Larry McMurtry, James was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1962, and grew up in Virginia. James McMurtry's seventh studio album, Childish Things, was released on Compadre Records in the fall of 2005. As writer L.E.Brady notes, "The album includes McMurtry's statement on American decline - We Can't Make It Here - his most unabashedly political number yet."
