About this concert
Memorial Day weekend is considered the official kick off of the summer, but before summer comes the spring and in the first weekend in the month of May is considered the May Day Classic observed with cruising, parties, summer vacation, out door concerts and cook outs, May Day Classic music festival rolls them all up into one event that has continued to get bigger with each year. Now in it’s 24th consecutive year, May Day Classic promises to pick up where last year left off. Based in the heart of the dirty south Atlanta, Georgia to be exact, May Day Classic music festival takes place in the heart of Atlanta. This year several promoters are joining to promote May Day Classic music festival weekend events at several metro clubs and venues. As always, May Day Classic music festival features live performances by many southern rap and rhythm and blues recording artists, free food, a car show, partying and overall crunk time. May Day Classic music festival has been compared to the early days of Freaknik, because it has the same energy and party atmosphere that made Freaknik world famous. May Day Classic music festival founder and creator Sir Classic, C.E.O. of Dictator Records, set out to create a new event that would pick up where Freaknik left off. He decided to make it accessible to people in the community and at the same time reach out to up and coming artists across the country. Last years May Day Classic music festival event was held at Gresham park in Decatur, Georgia. Past performers at previous May Day Classic music festival include BME/Warner Brothers recording artist Lil Scrappy, Memphis rap legend Tom Skeemask, Dictator Records recording group Swat Team, Atlanta bass legend M.C. The first annual May Day Classic music festival car and bike show was organized and coordinated by Dez from Dezignated auto’s located in Decatur, Georgia and featured customized cars, bikes and Motor Cycles with boomin’ systems. Previous years car shows have been organized and sponsored by Neal from Neal’s custom auto’s located in Decatur, Georgia and Jay's Customs Cars located in Conyers, Georgia. May Day Classic music festival not only features live performances but also has had non stop DJing on the wheels of steel by DJ Goldfinger, the world famous DJ Dagwood, DJ A-Cee and Atlanta’s Hot 107.9’s DJ Ralow Smith. People who have attended past May Day Classic music festival events include rhythm and blues recording artist Monica, Epic recording artist Baby D, Bad Boy recording artist Eightball, and many other local celebrities.
