Double Mint Dragon Biography

Double Mint Dragon is a math/post-rock guitar/drum duo based in New York City.

Guitarist/singer Alex Woods of various Oakland, CA math/noise-rock & pop-punk bands (Reptilian Shape Shifters, Groundskeeper, and Hover Bikes) moved to Brooklyn, NY in 2013 and met drummer, animator, and Pittsburgh, PA native, Scott Balles. Both answered a craigslist ad to join a band but ultimately spun off as a duo to form - Double Mint Dragon.

Making their debut in early 2016, Double Mint Dragon has played all around NYC and in 2018 released two singles, The New Tobacco and Stand-in Actor.

Writing songs that can move from math-rock, post-hardcore, post-rock, experimental noise, to alternative rock, the band continually refined their sound, filling the sonic spectrum with live-loops, drum triggers, vocals, and effects pedals.

In early 2020 they began pre-production on their debut LP Silver Volt. Taking their time through the difficulties of the pandemic, Alex and Scott rigorously rehearsed and thoughtfully and methodically recorded and arranged an album they could truly be proud of.

Now fully realized in all its glory, prepare for Silver Volt by Double Mint Dragon.

Catch Double Mint Dragon this spring and summer as they hit the North East with a wave of shows, new material, and live-in-the-studio video recordings.
