About this concert
Memory Lane is pleased to announce our next afternoon party Memory Lane London 2024 which will be held as usual at the Phoenix Arts Club, Charing Cross Road, London on Saturday 12th October 2024 from noon until 4:30pm. (Doors open 11:45.) The PDO performs between approximately 2pm and 4pm, but please come for the whole event if you can! This year’s musical theme will be, ‘The Hits of the 1930s’, as played by the Great British Dance Bands, and we are delighted to welcome back, Michael Law and The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra who will be playing original arrangements as heard at the time. We also welcome back, a great favourite, the delightful cabaret chanteuse, Kate Garner, who will entertain us in song at the piano. The Phoenix Arts Club is an “intimate” night-club style venue in the basement of the Phoenix Theatre. The event is particularly aimed at our subscribers as a thank you, as without them there would be no Memory Lane. The event is also an important fund raiser for the magazine, with every penny of the ticket money providing support. Your ticket also includes free entry to the popular Memory Lane raffle which once again will offer a range of unique mystery prizes. A great opportunity to spend an afternoon in convivial company of folk who share our love of the Great British Dance Bands. A complimentary buffet lunch with tea and coffee will be available on arrival and as usual a free bar will operate for the afternoon. Tickets are available now, and are strictly limited in number. Our recent events sold out rapidly, so order your tickets early to avoid disappointment Tickets can be bought by Memory Lane subscribers only - up to four tickets per subscriber, and are priced at £35.00 per ticket. Those who are not current subscribers will need to take out a subscription before ordering tickets.

Michael Law's Piccadilly Dance Orchestra Biography

From the Charleston of the 1920s Gatsby era through the beautiful classic songs of the 1930s, to swing and jazz hits, Michael Law's Piccadilly Dance Orchestra performs the greatest dance music and the best tunes of the Jazz Age.

Elegant, musically immaculate and infused with toe-tapping rhythm, the PDO’s recordings have recently been chosen for the soundtracks of CSI, Gotham as well as an award-winning documentary about Stanley Kubrick…and two of the PDO’s recordings (Happy Feet and Dance Little Lady) have been heard by more than two and a half million people on YouTube.

The PDO enjoyed residencies at London's Ritz and Savoy Hotels and have recorded eight CDs. Their sensational Café de Paris events have set a new standard for recreations of 1920s/30s high society entertainment.

At The Savoy, The PDO were the last to perform on the legendary stage where so many great bands of the past had performed, including Carroll Gibbons and the Savoy Hotel Orpheans, Geraldo, Fred Elizalde and Debroy Somers.

Acclaimed worldwide for their spirited recreations of the music of the British Dance Bands, Michael and the PDO were especially chosen for BBC 4's highly successful Len Goodman's Dancing Feet and a sequel, Len Goodman's Dance Band Days - and following their concert at John Dankworth and Cleo Laine's Wavendon theatre: "this was probably the most entertaining evening I can remember...the orchestra is really superb".
