Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir Biography

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (EPCC) is one of the best-known Estonian music ensembles in the world. The EPCC was founded in 1981 by Tõnu Kaljuste, who was the Artistic Director for twenty years. He was succeeded by Paul Hillier, Daniel Reuss and Kaspars Putniņš. Since August 2021 the Chief Conductor is Tõnu Kaljuste.
The choir’s repertoire extends from baroque to the music of the 21st century, with a special focus on the Estonian composers, such as Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis and others. Each season the choir gives about 50 concerts in Estonia and abroad.
The EPCC has collaborated with many eminent conductors and orchestras including Sir Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado, Richard Tognetti, Marc Minkowski, Gustavo Dudamel, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic etc. The choir is a welcomed guest at prestigious festivals, including Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, BBC Proms, Salzburg Festspiele, and venues as the Sydney Opera House, Amsterdam Muziekgebouw, Wiener Konzerthaus, the Hong Kong City Hall, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Carnegie Hall etc.
A discography (ECM, Virgin Classics, Carus, Harmonia Mundi, Ondine, Bis Records) has received outstanding awards including two Grammys, Gramophone Award, Diapason d’Or, 16 Grammy nominations etc.
In 2020 BBC Music Magazine has named the EPCC as one of the 10 best choirs in the world.
