About this concert
Concert "Pärt & Händel" creates a musical bridge between different eras, connecting the soundscape of the 18th century with contemporary music created with reverence for the past. The performers include internationally acclaimed interpreters of Arvo Pärt's music, Tõnu Kaljuste and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, along with one of the leading baroque orchestras Concerto Copenhagen. Concerto Copenhagen Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir Conductor Tõnu Kaljuste Arvo Pärt „Silouans Song“ for string orchestra „Trisagion“ for string orchestra „Stabat Mater“ for mixed-choir and string orchestra Georg Friedrich Händel Concerto Grosso Opus 6 No. 5 in D Major „Dixit Dominus“ for soloists, choir and orchestra The concert belongs to the programme of Tartu 2024, The European Capital of Culture. https://tartu2024.ee/en/programme/part-handel/ The combination of human voices and period instruments made from natural material is one of the oldest ways of expressing art. In the collaboration between these two distinctive music ensembles, the works of two great masters are explored together. CoCo interprets Arvo Pärt’s compositions on period instruments for the first time, opening up new possibilities for interpreting the composer’s multi-layered creations. Pärt’s music is complemented by the brilliant works of the Baroque master Georg Friedrich Handel. When the music of these two masters from different eras meets, new sonic worlds are revealed, reaching the audience through the performances of two internationally recognized music ensembles as part of the programme of Tartu 2024, the European Capital of Culture. Concerto Copenhagen (CoCo) is the leading baroque orchestra in Scandinavia, dedicated to early music. Playing on historical instruments, the orchestra is highly esteemed for its high-quality performances and diverse repertoire. Alongside well-known composers from the Baroque and early Classical periods, they also present less-known significant works from Scandinavian composers. The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (EPCC) has become one of the most renowned Estonian music ensembles worldwide. With two Grammys and a prestigious Gramophone award, the choir has been invited to perform at numerous renowned festivals and concert venues around the world, such as the BBC Proms, Salzburg Mozart Week, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles Walt Disney Concert Hall, and others.
