*English see below* De wereld van MOOON betreden is alsof je een tijdmachine binnenstapt. Het jonge Brabantse powertrio, bestaande uit de broers Tom en Gijs de Jong en hun neef Timo van Lierop, neemt de luisteraar mee naar de Gouden Eeuw van de popmuziek: de hoogtijdagen van de psychedelia in de jaren 60 en 70. Hun derde album, met de toepasselijke titel “III”, is afgelopen februari uitgekomen. Op 12 oktober kun je de energieke muzikanten live aanschouwen in De Vorstin! **Het ontstaan van MOOON** De band vindt zijn oorsprong in 2013, in een oude boerenschuur ergens in het zuiden des lands. Hier werden de eerste zaadjes geplant voor een muzikaal project dat tien jaar later nog altijd volop in ontwikkeling is. Eén van de belangrijkste pijlers: zo authentiek mogelijk werken. De muziek werd van begin af aan volledig op band gezet met de instrumenten en apparatuur uit de periode waarin de groep het grootste deel van haar inspiratie vindt. Een benadering die aantoont dat het het drietal menens is; MOOON is niet van het halfbakken werk, maar gaat voor een sound die qua authenticiteit akelig dicht in de buurt van de grondleggers komt. The Who, The Monkees en Small Faces, maar ook minder bekende namen als The Idle Race, Grapefruit en Strawberry Alarm Clock: ze zitten allemaal in het DNA van MOOON. Met hun eigen materiaal trok de band al snel na de oprichting langs jeugdhonken, poppodia en verschillende Nederlandse festivals. In de jaren daarna werd het vizier ook op het buitenland gericht, met tours en optredens in onder meer Duitsland, Frankrijk, Portugal, Spanje en Zwitserland. Er werden twee albums uitgebracht, MOOON's Brew (2017) en Safari (2019), die beide lovend ontvangen werden door de mondiale psychscene. **III** Vier jaar na de laatste plaat presenteert de band nu het derde album, III. Hierop graait de band nog wat dieper in de trukendoos met psychedelia. De catchy garagerockers zijn nog steeds vertegenwoordigd, maar worden vergezeld door complexere songs. Op You Cannot Know horen we een uitgebreide, jazzy drumsolo, eindigend in een bijna barok outrosegment. Het is een van de vele voorbeelden van de ontwikkeling van MOOON als band die we op III horen. Voor inspiratie wordt er nog steeds graag naar het rijke verleden gekeken, maar het drietal duikt steeds dieper het konijnenhol in en experimenteert er lustig op los, resulterend in een kleurrijke mix van stijlen en ideeën, zonder ook maar een moment in te boeten aan authenticiteit en eigenzinnigheid. III is nu uit op Excelsior Recordings (Benelux) & Soundflat Records (wereldwijd). Entering the world of MOOON is like stepping into a time machine. The young Brabantian power trio, comprised of brothers Tom and Gijs de Jong and their cousin Timo van Lierop, transports the listener to the Golden Age of pop music: the heyday of psychedelia in the 1960s and 70s. Their third album, aptly titled "III," was released this past February. On October 12th, you can witness the energetic musicians live at De Vorstin! **The Origins of MOOON** The band originated in 2013, in an old barn somewhere in the southern part of the country. Here, the first seeds were planted for a musical project that is still thriving ten years later. One of the main pillars: working as authentically as possible. The music was entirely recorded on tape from the outset, using instruments and equipment from the era in which the group draws most of its inspiration. An approach that demonstrates the seriousness of the trio; MOOON doesn't do things by halves, aiming for a sound that comes eerily close to the pioneers in terms of authenticity. The Who, The Monkees, and Small Faces, as well as lesser-known names like The Idle Race, Grapefruit, and Strawberry Alarm Clock: they all inhabit MOOON's DNA. With their original material, the band quickly toured youth centers, music venues, and various Dutch festivals after its formation. In the following years, their focus also turned to international audiences, with tours and performances in Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland, among others. Two albums were released, "MOOON's Brew" (2017) and "Safari" (2019), both of which were warmly received by the global psych scene. **III** Four years after their last album, the band now presents their third album, "III." On this record, the band delves even deeper into the psychedelic bag of tricks. The catchy garage rockers are still present, but are accompanied by more complex songs. On "You Cannot Know," we hear an extensive, jazzy drum solo, culminating in an almost baroque outro segment. It is one of the many examples of MOOON's evolution as a band that we hear on "III." While inspiration still draws heavily from the rich past, the trio delves deeper into the rabbit hole and experiments freely, resulting in a colorful mix of styles and ideas, without ever compromising on authenticity and uniqueness.
