Honeyboy & Boots Biography

This guitar and cello duo has a sweet and unique sound, blending the rich notes of cello with acoustic guitar.
Their sound embodies Americana, folk, alt country, and blues with harmonies and a hint of classical notes.
Drew Blackwell was raised in Macon, Mississippi. He spent the summers writing stories in a library that used to be a jail. He was influenced by his Uncle Doug who taught him old country standards. He was also mentored by Alabama bluesman Willie King. This is when he got the nickname Honeyboy.
Courtney Blackwell (Kinzer) grew up in Washington State. She began cello lessons at the age of three from Bill Wharton the cello professor at the University of Idaho. Where she taught country lines dancing! Which is how she got her nickname Boots.
With encouragement from her parents, and a new found passion to use cello as a way to express emotion she developed her unique technique, tone quality, and ear training.
They have performed at the Red Lodge Songwriter Festival, Whitefish Songwriter Festival, and the 30A Songwriter Festival. In June of 2023, they were performers on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour in Lexington, KY
