Paul Jacobsen And The Madison Arm Biography

"Opening for Sara Watkins, The Madison Arm converted more than a few folks at The State Room tonight. If you haven’t checked out the immense talent stirring in your own backyard, get ye to a record store ASAP. Why these guys aren’t huge is a mystery." - Jamie Gadette, Salt Lake City Weekly

".. a straight-ahead winner of an album, full of fine songs, including such highlights as the sad, majestic 'Time,' as well as 'The World Unkind' 'Stupid Little Things' and 'Anything Pecked to Death Will Die.' Drawing upon strong lyrics and gorgeous backup vocals...The Madison Arm has made an album deserving of a larger audience." -Scott Murphy, Salt Lake Tribune

If you can judge someone by the company they keep, then Paul Jacobsen & The Madison Arm are doing alright, having shared stages with Sheryl Crow, Megafaun, Suzanne Vega, John Hiatt, Mike Doughty, The Jayhawks, Ryan Bingham, Sara Watkins, Colin Hay, Sarah Jarosz, Ellis Paul, Erin McKeown, Great Lake Swimmers, Bowerbirds, Laura Gibson, and a whole bunch more. But it's more than just the company they keep. Solo, Jacobsen has been a finalist in both the Telluride Bluegrass Troubadour and Folks Fest Songwriter contests. His last album, Paul Jacobsen & The Madison Arm, recorded over a couple of years in basements, a Montana cabin, a Brooklyn living room, and a couple bona fide studios, has garnered critical praise. And their live shows, as SLC Weekly mentioned above, have converted more than a few believers.

"Folk-rock? Alt-country? Not sure what you’d label it, exactly; I just call it some of the best songwriting in these parts, delivered by masterfully skilled
players."- Dan Nailen, Salt Lake City Weekly
