About this concert
Internationally acclaimed tap dancer and musician, Petra Haller, steps into new territory with her latest venture: the Petra Haller Trio. This new ensemble, coming to Metronome Coffee House in Morden April 24th 2024, promises an evolution of Haller's well-established innovation in contemporary jazz. The trio comprises Haller, pianist Christian Prior, and bassist Michael Searle, all geared up to deliver a captivating performance. Hailed as one of “10 Female Jazz Musicians You Need To Know" by Reader's Digest, and Jazzwise Magazine’s “Rising Jazz Artist: Who to Look Out for in 2020", Haller continues to push the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Her reputation for improvisational and interdisciplinary work speaks volumes to her versatility—from tap dancer to musician to band leader. A persistent innovator, Haller is veering into fresh terrain, bringing her unique approach to improvisation into the realm of straight-ahead jazz. Haller's narrative is rooted deeply in her collaborations – a testament to her ability to strike melodic gold across multiple mediums and artistic partnerships. Notable collaborations include those with distinguished drummer Mark Saunders, clarinettist and saxophonist Paul Jolly, among many others. Haller’s debut studio album, Shoulders I Stand On, has also been stirring up the musical world since its release. With a successful release-listening party at Metronome Coffee House in London, the album is gaining international acclaim, including a four-star review from All About Jazz by Bruce Lindsay and a hearty endorsement by Sammy Stein on Free Jazz Collective. Its significant success prompted further plans for a vinyl release due in March 2024. Haller, Searl and Prior aim to create a unique converging point of rhythm, improvisation, and traditional jazz. The trio’s synergistic efforts combine their vast creative skills to bring audiences a stimulating musical experience, arguably a milestone in Haller's artistic journey.
