About this concert
Naarm/Melbourne-based “gentle and tender” (Anika Luna, Triple J) indie artist DARVID THOR (he/him) reminds us of the importance of self-generating reflection with ‘Changing Shape’; a song detailing the malleability of memories and our unmoored identities as a result. ‘Changing Shape’, along with the music video directed by Darvid and Beloved label mate Lewis Coleman, is out April 11 via Beloved Recordings. Having entirely self-recorded and produced his “absorbing, photosynthetic, warped, beautiful” (Triple J) debut “I’m Never Really Here” (2019), Darvid felt the urge to open up a process that would allow him to create in a deeper and more nuanced way; a creative process rooted in community and friendship. Garnering support from the likes of Beach Fossils and Danger Mouse around this record, Darvid’s woozy indie rock is a reminder for us to slow down, take a breath, and take stock of what’s around us. Darvid and his band (Lewis Coleman, Rowena Wise, Jess Ellwood and Ruby Dargaville) will play a special set at Shotkickers on May 2 to celebrate the release. They're joined by special guests Sunny Morris and planet:pain

darvid thor Biography

Darvid Thor is a songwriter, instrumentalist, and record label owner based in Naarm, Australia. Having played guitar since the age of 12 alongside now lifelong friends in The Cactus Channel and Karate Boogaloo, Darvid has since crafted numerous records with various groups, including his solo music. Leaning into a more cinematic and orchestral space within the idiom of indie and alternative music, Darvid's talent for turning the temperate and tiresome into something a little more serene is a testament to someone whose equanimity remains a cornerstone of their sound.

Since the release of his “absorbing, photosynthetic, warped, beautiful” (Max Quinn - Triple J) record, ‘I’m Never Really Here’ in 2019, Darvid’s brand of woozy indie rock has afforded support from Beach Fossils, Danger Mouse, Double J, Triple J Unearthed, and Indie Shuffle, to name a few. 2024 sees the release of new music via his own record label, Beloved Recordings (Lewis Coleman, Rowena Wise).
