About this concert
With the winter chills long gone and the echoes of “sleigh bells ring …bla de bla ….” finally put to rest, Larry & Zak bounce back to the stage with the usual bunch to present a sizzling "Summer Jazz Special”.
together with Dom Copestick, double-bass wizzo Robert Rickenberg, and a raver’s return for Jamie Castell, Larry & Zak have also reserved places on stage for Mr Adam Multi-Instrumentalist (there’s nothing I can’t get a note out of) Mader AND amazing beat-boxer and bloody good drummer Mr Andy (where did I put my wallet?) Frost.
For many years, Larry and Zak have presented the now legendary XMAS Jazz seasons, performing to capacity audiences bedazzled by the fun and antics on stage (and sometimes by the music) …. and now ….. get your shades out … a ‘summer breeze’ … ‘up a lazy river’ … a summer cocktail or two ... "in the wee small hours" ... ‘close your eyes’ ....
A steamy swinging programme, putting on happy faces - can you afford to miss another hot rave with these cool dudes? (what?! … really?!)

We absolutely love Larry & Zak & their amazing jazz Band and have seen them now on the December Saturday before Christmas evening performance for the last 5 years, having first seen Larry and Zak in Pizza Express TuesdayJazz evenings. Larry Berkovitz - Piano / Vocal
With little formal training, Larry’s playing style can best be described as “unorthodox”. Equipped with a very early Farfisa organ, he survived the underground rock years of the late sixties/early seventies as one half of “TWO” – playing support to the likes of URIAH HEEP, OSIBISA, and even SLADE (what a racket!).
He doesn’t remember very much.
Back in the UK from the mid-eighties, and some years older and returning to his original passion of Jazz, Larry became a popular performer on the local Essex and London Jazz scene, leading his own band E-MAIL SPECIAL for some 12 years until 2011, amassing a strong following and enchanting concert audiences at home (Chelmsford) and in Southend, Bury St Edmunds, London’s VORTEX Jazz Bar, Knightsbridge’s much-lamented prestigious PIZZA ON THE PARK, etc. In recent years, however, Larry has concentrated on the arranging and developing of much of the Spring, Summer and Xmas Jazz repertoires and on performing these in concert (co-presented with Zak Barrett) to much acclaim.
But with much of his time now spent abroad, public appearances in the UK are now more of a rarity.
