About this concert
China's Leading Instrumental Rock Band Wang Wen Celebrating its 25(th) anniversary, Wang Wen is embarking on its fifth European Tour after a five-year hiatus. We invite you to join the "All Yesterday's Parties" Founded in 1999 in Dalian, Wang Wen is considered as the pioneer of instrumental-rock/post -rock band in China, as well as one of the hardest working indie bands. With 25-year history, the band released 12 studio albums, 1 original sound tracks album and 1 split vinyl with Swedish instrumentalists Pg.Lost. Wang Wen makes beautiful melancholic instrumental music, and they are well known for their intense live shows. They have toured Asia and Europe multiple times and shared stages with Mogwai, Mono…Wang Wen have brought their music to nearly 20 countries and districts and they will go on to do that. Wang Wen are so special, they bound to be the leading post-rock band of China. "It's been five years since our last European tour, and in these enchanting five years, we released two albums — '100,000 Whys' and 'Painful Clown & Ninja Tiger.' This year marks the 25(th) anniversary of Wang Wen. From the band's inception until now, each performance, whether filled with joy or melancholy, the marvelous, thrilling, and sometimes quirky adventures we've shared, every ally who stepped in to help the band at different phases, and the lively and genuine faces in the audience — all of these have consistently moved and empowered Wang Wen. In the upcoming 2024 European tour, we aim to share all these exciting stories with you through our music." Wang Wen Over the last five years, Wang Wen has been on a continuous journey. Two albums, "100,000 Whys" (2020) and "Painful Clown & Ninja Tiger" (2022), emerged during the pandemic as insightful reflections of a unique historical period. These two albums, designed to be listened to sequentially, mirror emotional shifts from adversity to frustration. Musically, they preserve Wang Wen's trademark intricate instrumental compositions and graceful melodies. "Painful Clown & Ninja Tiger" goes further by reintroducing lyrics, painting a nuanced picture of a somber reality while offering a touch of warmth and hope. With the release of this album, Wang Wen established their official band website, wangwenband.com, creating a virtual space to connect with the world. Looking ahead to 2024, Wang Wen is gearing up for the launch of a unique 25th-anniversary live album titled "All Yesterday’s Parties". Marking the band's debut in live album releases, it features ten classic tracks carefully selected from their extensive discography. As they navigate past memories, it symbolizes a reflection on bygone times and a fresh start. In the early days of the new year, Wang Wen aims to share the warmth and hope embedded in this "gift" of a record with people worldwide. 100,000 Whys:https://open.spotify.com/album/4Zu6ZFdVNVMJ1gkItdRy6v Painful Clown & Ninja Tiger:https://open.spotify.com/album/7JftUSfI8vBqNNuc6yPFec Wang Wen has embarked on four European tours in 2008, 2015, 2016, and 2019, leaving their imprint in 42 European cities. They have also been frequent guests at renowned instrumental rock and post-rock music festivals across Europe. Like the steadfastness of wind against a stone, the rhythm of "releasing a full-length studio album every two years and conducting a tour at home and abroad" remains a constant since Wang Wen's inception. In the upcoming 2024 European tour, Wang Wen is once again honored with an invitation to the Dunk! Festival and is set to make its debut appearance at the Portals Festival in the UK. 2024 is poised to be an extraordinary year, where the world is once again coming together from scattered "islands" into a cohesive "continent". For Wang Wen and the world alike, this marks a fresh start. Wang Wen warmly invites you to be part of this "All Yesterday’s Parties", where we can exchange our unique stories through the language of music. All Yesterday’s Parties: Wang Wen's Four European Tours In 2008, the year of the Beijing Olympics, the world approached international exchange with an open heart. It was during this pivotal year that Wang Wen released the album "IV." With their determination and the support of friends in Europe, they successfully undertook their inaugural European tour, gathering valuable experience from overseas performances. The well-received album "Eight Horses" in 2014 marked a breakthrough for the band in the international market. The subsequent year saw Wang Wen returning to Europe for their second tour, making a notable debut at the Dunk! Festival. This album introduced a trumpeter, and the resonating trumpet melody in the final track, "Welcome to Utopia," at the festival left the entire audience in awe. "Eight Horses" also boasted a memorable visual with calligraphic lines on a textured dark green backdrop symbolizing the free-spirited movement of "horses," radiating a captivating sense of Eastern artistic beauty. This emotionally rich release, characterized by atmospheric tones, delves into the intricate relationship between individuals and their era. The cover artwork, sourced from the "Family Album" series by artist Li Weiyi, adds a distinctive visual touch. During this European tour, Wang Wen ventured to Iceland for the first time, capturing the essence of their next album, "Invisible City." Released in 2018, this record stands out as Wang Wen's most melodically warm and beautiful album. Collaborating with the internationally acclaimed illustrator Jun Cen, the album also boasts a visually striking dimension that leaves a lasting impression.
