Dr Chrispy Biography
Dr Chrispy is the musical alter ego of Dr Chris Boshuizen, an Australian astronaut, space explorer and technologist. As a life-long advocate for space exploration, Chris has fought tirelessly to “make space travel as easy as catching a bus”. On October 13, 2021 he became the 3rd Australian to go to space, flying alongside Star Trek’s William Shatner on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.
As a musician, Dr Chrispy blends Synthwave with modern hard hitting Progressive House beats to create an accessible and energising sound. With his strong focus on songwriting and finding truth in lyrics, Dr Chrispy’s hopes to connect and inspire the future generation of artists and explorers.
His passion for music was sparked early on, being captivated as a kid by the synthesiser-driven music of TV shows like Knight Rider and Miami Vice, and the lo-fi chiptune sounds of early computer games. During summer holidays, he would borrow the Commodore Amiga computers from his high school and spend his days writing his own computer music.
Adopting the nickname “Dr Chrispy '' given to him by his NASA co-workers, he has released his debut album, VHS, in 2018, and has since released over 40 other tracks, including numerous singles and remixes for other artists. He has also worked with dozens of artists, many of whom he supports through his own record label, Interplanetary Records. These include British legendary actor Stephen Fry, Grammy-nominated artist and Juno winning, The Stunt Man, and Synthwave legends Rogue VHS, Psybolord, and Color Theory. The Dr Chrispy remix of fellow Australian, Isla Noir’s, “Moonlight” has surpassed 200k streams on Spotify alone.
Chris is currently working on an EP of songs to commemorate his trip to space, and the first single, “The Great Unknown” has already been viewed 1.6 million times in only 8 weeks.
Recent concert highlights have included a sold out show In Paris’s Palais Maillot in 2022, double-headed shows under the NASA Space Shuttles in Los Angeles and Kennedy Space Center in 2022 and 2023, and as a featured performer on the Australia House stage at South by Southwest in 2022 and 2024.
Chris founded Interplanetary Records, which supports dozens of artists, and also runs his own small, but well-equipped home studio in San Francisco where he continues to write new Dr Chrispy music.
