Young Grey Biography

Young Grey, born David Marone, is native of West Orange New Jersey. He lives with his wife Kristy, and daughters Londyn, Kennedy and son Dallas.

He fell in love with rap when he was 10 years old but didn’t take rapping serious until he was 16. Many of his favorite artist include Eminem, Nas, Wu-Tang, Redman, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Kanye West, Mobb Deep, Jay-Z, Twista, Notorious B.I.G, UGK, J-Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Joyner Lucas, Slum Village and Lauryn Hill. Even groups from other places like Nirvana, Blink 182, Foster The People played a part in helping him develop his style, word play and how he studied the essence of creating. Even though rap is his biggest influence he is a multi genre artist and doesn’t want to put himself in a corner.

Young Grey has a style that is unique to him. Subject matters are key to his creativity with song foundations on social problems and family however he still knows how to make a club get up and dance. When asked why the name “Young Grey” he shares how his hair began to turn grey when he was 9 yrs old. He would get teased by classmates calling him old people names not knowing that it was his birthmark. He didn’t let the name calling get to him and instead took something negative and made it positive. So, when he began to take his talent serious, what could have been a better name than Young Grey.
