About this concert
Melissa Ferrick: On August 15th, 2023, Ferrick released Black Dress, their first single in eight years, via the venerable Kill Rock Stars Records. This release coincided with the 30th anniversary of Ferrick's critically acclaimed major label debut, Massive Blur. Ferrick is regarded in the industry and by their peers as one of the most prolific, generous, and hardworking people in the business. After opening for Morrissey in the U.S. and UK, Ferrick signed with Atlantic Records at the age of 21 and released her debut and sophomore albums with them. She's released seventeen albums over the last twenty-five years and has won numerous awards for songwriting, production, and performance, sharing the stage with countless acts, some of which include Morrissey, Joan Armatrading, Weezer, Tegan and Sara, Mark Cohen, Paul Westerberg, Bob Dylan, John Hiatt, Ani DiFranco, k.d. Lang, Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin. Besides her work in the music industry, Ferrick is a Professor of the Practice at Northeastern University, and she holds an M.Ed. from Harvard University.

Getting to experience, Melissa Ferrick play live is always a joy. I’ve been going to her shows for 25-30 years now and it is still a treat. Melissa is a phenomenal and extremely talented singer/songwriter. There is nothing like when she goes on a tangent with her guitar. If you have not had a chance to see Melissa play live I highly recommend getting out to see her. Allison (CT)

Melissa Ferrick Biography

Singer/songwriter Melissa Ferrick emerged in 1994 as part of a group of new female alternative singer/songwriters, much in the vein of Liz Phair. Ferrick began singing in coffeehouses after dropping out of college, eventually winding up in Boston. Her major breakthrough arrived one night when she replaced Morrissey's opening act less than an hour before showtime. Ferrick's performance impressed Morrissey and he invited her to open for him during the rest of the tour. The tour earned her a small cult following as well as a contract with Atlantic Records.
