Roy Saunders Music Biography
Roy Saunders is a Southern musician who blends the sounds of Country, Bluegrass, Southern Rock and Blues into a sound that could only be described as Appalachian Outlaw Country. Certain obvious influences stand out including The Highwaymen, Cody Jinx and Blackberry Smoke. Add in a little family style flavor from The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynryd for a distinctly original Southern sound.
Born in the North Georgia mountains he has a long musical heritage beginning with his grandfather, a popular professional pianist and Musician's Union president. His father was an acclaimed touring and studio guitarist.
In 2012 Roy formed the Atlanta based band 11th Night with his brother Ryan. He then moved to Savannah where he co-founded the Garth Brooks style duo Escaping Fate with low country legend and musical mainstay, Jay Morelock. While in Savannah Roy opened for Ian McLagan, Hannah Wicklund & The Steppin' Stones, People's Blues of Richmond, Zack Myers of Shinedown and Austin Webb.
Now based in Atlanta, Roy plays constantly across the Southeast as a solo or duo with percussionist Tom Dickenson. His debut EP, Stranger, released in early 2021. The music video for the title track was filmed in the Historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary.
As Roy continues to tour, write and record fans can expect new music and lots more from this talented Appalachian Outlaw soon.
