About this concert
Excited to present An Evening of Stories & Songs with Fat Man & Little Boy featuring on May 3, 2024 in Gas Hill Drinking Room! Doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. Tickets are on sale NOW at TheRamkat.com! Singer-songwriter, storyteller, and author, Jeff Wall has been called a Bigdumbhick for most of his life. Yes, there is no doubt that he is excessively large and Yeti looking, and he smells funky when he gets wet, but he’s not dumb in spite of what your initial impression might indicate, and as to being a hick, well that’s mighty subjective. Hailing from the Winston-Salem/Triad region of North Carolina, at 6’7”, and somewhere around 325lbs, he’s not just big, he is damned big. “Full-grown” as they say around those parts. Usually found in a worn pair of bib-overalls, if he’s wearing anything at all, he is a wise-cracking, cigar-smoking, self-depreciating, bad-ass acoustic guitar-slinger, and a hilarious entertainer to boot. Mark Dillon's earliest memory is of sitting on Dolly Parton’s lap at his great uncle’s country western radio show. He was a guest soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on banjo and has a PhD in music education. He spends a lot of time in music and theater production. He is not the voice of his generation. Everything else is irrelevant.

Bigdumbhick Biography

Jeff Wall is the Bigdumbhick, a 6’7”, 325+lb, bib-overall wearing, solo acoustic singer/songwriter/storyteller from the Piedmont region of North Carolina. Originally from Middle Tennessee, He spent 20 years in the Navy, where he taught himself to play guitar when he wasn’t busy sitting on his ass, smoking cigarettes, and occasionally being allowed to blow something up. He’s traveled the world, and he has broken bread and played music with people from every imaginable point of the political, religious, and social spectrum. ”Big”, yes, but he’s not nearly as “Dumb” or as “Hick” as he might initially portray himself to be.

What he is, is a very talented and performer, one who often writes darkly humorous songs, songs which will contain some deep thought provoking nugget. But he’s more than just a comedy act. One moment he can have you crying with laughter, and then out of the blue he hits you with something extremely personal and profound that will cause your jaw, and occasionally a few tears, to hit the ground.

What you see is what you get. There's no pretense, no posturing, no bullshit. Well, maybe a little bullshit, but he’s real. This is not an adapted persona. He is what he is and he ain’t ashamed of it.

[ “Jeff Wall is big, hairy, occasionally profane, and about the most fun performer you'll ever see. What might surprise you is the amount of heart and honesty there is in his music. His material is funny, irreverent and sometimes startlingly moving”. – Dan Ray - Greensboro NC

"I met Jeff and saw him play at last years Southeast Regional Folk Alliance. I loved his stuff, and laughed my butt off and occasionally was mortified ...he crosses lines and doesn’t care one bit. That’s why he’s so friggin’ authentic". - Peter Farrell - Philiadelphia

"If you get a chance to see Jeff, don’t miss it. Early songs brought nervous laughter, but by the end of the show there were belly laughs and a sing along. His lyrics are clever and his stories are unique... and true. Authenticity is hard to find these days, but I found it yesterday and it was wearing bib overalls". Terri Latham - Atlanta
